Well the votes are in, and the "London Fog" is the official drink of 2008.

Ok so here's what you need to get your lips wet:

1 bag of Earl Grey tea

1 Shot of Vanilla Syrup

Steamed Milk (I prefer to use Soy Milk as it tends to make the drink both creamier and flavorful)

Step 1: Brew a small amount of Earl Grey tea. (Add about 1/2 cup of boiling water to your mug leaving the tea bag in it)
Step 2: Heat up Milk. Preferably you have access to a steamer.
Step 3: Add the vanilla syrup. (adjust according to taste, one shot will do it.)

And from all that, you got yourself a "London Fog."
If you hit up most any Starbucks or Second Cups the baristas there know what this is, but I find when ordering it as directed versus by name, it usually comes out to a cheaper price. I select Second Cup over Starbucks for a variety of reasons, and above all, they also have a "vanilla bean" syrup as well.

Hit up Montreal for New Years eve. Had a lot of fun with old friends, and some new ones. I hope to visit Montreal a whole lot more in the New Year. Consider it my resolution for 2008.

Things started off at Apartment X, where pizza and beer went down.

This is the only picture I got in Barfly, because we were kicked out in less than 3 minutes. Beat that record!
Coda was our next destination where we paid way too much for bottled alcohol to keep our booth for the night. Things got messy fast, and our groups numbers diminished rapidly.

Woke the next morning with a hangover, a little regret and a lot of snow.

Montreal is a beautiful place.

Rolled down to NYC to catch Morrissey for the 3rd time this year. This was by far the best show of the year, and I even had a chance to hold his hand during the encore stage rush. Incredible night.

Spent a brief 20 hours or so in NYC, then popped in on Philadephia for the Floorpunch reunion & a cheesesteak, then back home. Didn't sleep much on this trip, but no rest for the wicked. I also didn't take my camera out much, but Sideways Hat Pat was a blog monster, and should have some of the highlights over at his domain.

THE FUTURE OF PURCHASED MUSIC?

Well today Radiohead's seventh studio album entitled "In Rainbows" was released, but not in the conventional way. Radiohead is the first band of their stature to cut out the middleman (the record label) and release this record digitally via their website. And if that wasn't enough, you decide how much you're willing to pay.

As someone who has been personally involved with the 'music industry' and felt the effects of it's 'shady' ways, I think this is huge. I bought this release this afternoon, and I wholeheartedly suggest you do too. We can all go and download it for free, and I'm sure Radiohead is financially secure, but it goes beyond all that. If this is seen by the 'industry', and by other bands, as a possibility, perhaps this will have a ripple effect, and change the way music is available to fans.

Now I mean no disrespect to the friends I have working their asses off at smaller, indie labels, helping smaller bands get out there, but there has been way too many bands that have been royaly fucked over by larger labels, and even the indie labels (Fuck Victory Records).

I want a change. If you do to, I think this is an opportunity to support that change. I mean, fuck it, if Ian Brown and Johnny Marr can get behind this, why shouldn't we all?

Last Monday Blue Rodeo busked around the city, playing throughout Toronto. I was tipped off to a few of the locations, and made it out to one performance in the concourse at King and Bay Street. I was able to capture a couple of shots via my camera phone. Jim Cuddy's voice was so on point, and they played without microphones.

FOREVER AGAIN

It was like being sixteen all over again, except this time when getting carded I was actually admitted into the show. This was only my second time seeing Eric's Trip, the first being at Another Roadside Attraction, an outdoor festival in which Eric's Trip's music didn't quite suit. The only other time I had tried to see them was at Foufs in Montreal, where I was under 18. I bought a ticket and went for it, ignoring the fact I was underage, and ultimately being turned away, devastated. Well more than 10 years later, with a recent reunion, I was finally able to catch one of my favourite bands in the right setting, under the right circumstances.

(I didn't think to bring my camera so these were all caught on my blackberry, so excuse the quality.)

With partners in crime, Doobis and Boozer, we kicked off Caribana with some 40s of Olde-E. It's been pretty sticky out as of late so it was a nice way to cool down.

We took it to the streets, and to the stoop.
Rolled on down to check out the latest offering from some of the No Warning kids, Marvelous Darlings at the 751.
Ewan Exall was spinning some pre-set tunes.
Ran into an old friend, Rob 'NMC' Bergin.
Scott 'Princess' Waring was also out, but disappointingly not all glammed up, as he bragged he would all week at work.
Marvelous Darlings were awesome. Check them out.

I ended the night with some throwing up and then passing out in front of my air conditioner. All in all, a great evening.

A BUSY WEEK

So I had an amazing week off work. I got to do most of the things I set out to do, only set back was the Morrissey show I intended to see in Northampton, that was cancelled due to him losing his voice. Other than that, it was incredible. It involved a whole lot of commuting, which wasn't even that bad. It all started last Friday night where we celebrated the birthday of one Steve "Doobis" Dubois. The party went down at his apartment and it was a great kick off.

I got up bright and early the next day and headed out to Montreal to meet up with Dan & Spoiler. We were heading down to see Bad Brains on a boat in NYC. We made a pitstop in Saratoga for an Underdog show, then hopped back into the car and headed for the big city lights. The lovely Mo Wyse was kind enough to provide us with a place to sleep. She is one of the most amazing people I know. The hostess with the mostess. She also had this on her fridge which let's you know she's 100% down.

We rolled out to Long Island with John Joseph later that night, to see his band Bloodclot play. The show was with some terrible bands, and as soon as Bloodclot was done, this went down. So weird.

Later that night we got back to Mo's and made our way to her roof to launch some fireworks. We did only a few before getting back inside, seeing as we were blowing this up off an apartment roof in Brooklyn.

The time finally came. Bad Brains on a boat! Shit as unreal. We got hooked up in the biggest way, and I got to meet all kinds of old NYHC dudes. I felt quite intimidated. The setlist was tight.

HR decided to take a nap during a whole song. Other HR highlights include a Q&A with the crowd, asking what everyone's favourite song is, as well as pulling a flashlight out of his pocket, going to shine it on his face, realizing it's dead, and says "no batteries." Priceless.

Back in Montreal Dan, Spoiler and I went and got matching tattoos. It was basically an inside joke taken too far?

Headed down to Front Street, a mere 2 blocks down from my place, to check out the four-legged friendlies over at the outdoor festival, 'Woofstock.' There were so many amazing dogs, all kinds of different breeds, and as a dog lover I was in heaven. I'm lucky there wasn't a booth that sold actual dogs, otherwise I would have made an impulse purchase.

Mike "Boiler" Boileau and I decided to hit up the Hockey Hall of Fame. Seeing as I'm still new to the city, and he was visiting, we decided it was the "tourist" thing to do. Besides, we're Canadian, it's our civic duty.

BLACK REBEL MOTORCYCLE CLUB

Here's a show review of BRMC at the Kool Haus in Toronto from Saturday night.

I just recently got into this band, dunno how I had not been in the "know" sooner, but better now than never, I guess. I googled the opening act, The Cobbs from Philadelphia. Their myspace songs blew, so this granted me an extra 30 minutes to chill out and watch some of The Devil Wears Prada, that Tara was rocking (side note: Anne Hathaway is smoking! *). So The Kool Haus is a convenient 10 minute walk from my house, so I rolled up at 9:30pm as BRMC were scheduled for a 10pm start, and after rolling up to Nas a month prior at the same venue thinking I was early and missing the first 20 minutes of his set, littered with bangers, I wasn't gonna make the same mistake twice. I caught the last song by The Cobbs and it wasn't completely terrible, but meh. I staked claim on my standing spot and held my ground for 30 minutes with a serious TM sesh with Beeps & Fat Mat. The lights dimmed and some intro music played, sounded almost like they were playing instruments from the side or something. The smoke machines were blasting and from amidst the smoke BRMC emerged and started the set with "Took Out A Loan" the first track off their latest offering "Baby 81." They went into all their songs relatively fast, with very little stage banter. They also had crazy lights set up where every once in awhile, while they were getting their "sonic-sounding rock-groove" on (I witnessed people around me closing their eyes to really feeeeeel the music too) it flashed rapidly, as a strobe effect but almost blinding, cause they had like 5 of these high powered lights. Kinda cool, but kinda hard on the eyes.

I always seem to end up near the screamers at shows. This one girl started screaming as soon as they entered the stage and continued to do so at the start of every song. She also did this jump up and down, sloppy drunk, mosh/dance, where she kept bumping into me and/or whipping me with her hair. I slowly moved away. The band played for about 2 hours, which was awesome. They released a slower, less rock record entitled "Howl" and 3/4 through the set the band left and the guitar player who sings played a couple songs of this record. The bassist then came out and doubled up the vocals, and then played his own unreleased song. It's confusing to say "bassist" and "guitarist" as they switched instruments during the show, but I'm gonna stick with my assumptions though, cause they played those respective instruments for the majority of the set.

As it would seem they were done, the lights came on and I started to head in the direction of the exit. The chanting for one more song seemed like it was doing nothing, but the band ended up coming back out. On my way to the doors I ended up a lot closer to the stage, and stuck around for the encore. BRMC hadn't played Toronto for quite sometime, as they said on stage, so they promised to make it up to the audience. They then went on to take heckled requests and played another 5 songs. The alleged bassist even jumped down to the barricade and gave high fives as the band played on. He insisted the lights remain on to "see all the beautiful faces." It added a cool atmosphere to what was a somewhat dark environment. The attendees who were pounding back their oh so beloved Molson Canadians all night really put on their "party shoes" for these last few songs and a mosh pit erupted. A few guys who look like your typical big jean wearing, hacky-sack types even got so into it, they managed to briefly crowd surf. The awkward type where they float for a second, look as if they're going down but surprise you with a sudden emergence from what seemed like a surfers doom.

All in all it was a great set, they played material off all their 4 LPs, and left the Toronto crowd satisfied. It was awesome to see them live, because it only made me like the band even more. If you have yet to check these guys out, they kind of have an updated The Jesus & Mary Chain sound.

I love getting mail. The Dear & Departed CD was the first layout I've done and it came out awesome. I'm so grateful they gave me the opportunity. I also got a $160 cheque in the mail, $160 I wasn't expecting (God Bless college health insurance!). Today was a good mail day! (Note: I also recieved a nice package courtesy of Cory "Beeps" Prestayko just the day before as well, sealed like it was ready for battle. Thanks for the shoes and hat! Good looking out.)

CEREAL KILLER

I have an intense love for cereal, and it has gone through many phases over the years, from sugar-covered marshmallows (particularly the special Halloween edition of Froot Loops with ghost-shaped marshmallows) to the overly healthy bran types. Bottom line is I love cereal in all of its glorious forms.

My first review is of Special K's newest offering "Chocolately Delight." I am definitely a sucker for advertising because I went looking for it after only seeing the commercial run a small handful of times. I was curious how this would work, as it offered health with chocolate chunks. Now first off, it isn't the typical Special K I remember my Mom eating, (basically Rice Krispies I always thought) it has a more of a Vector cereal type taste and shape. Kind of a hard taste to pinpoint, yet uniquely delicious. The first few bites of this cereal the combination and harmony of chocolate and Special K works, but this cereal falls victim to the same pitfalls as the original Special K. If you don't eat this fast, you'll end up with a soggy bowl of slop. I hate when cereal loses its crunch, so eating this requires your undivided attention. Although the two work quite nicely in taste together, this is a brief marriage, as I found the chocolate bits ended up sinking to the bottom, leaving you with nothing but chocolate chunks and milk. I'll use a scale of 1-5 spoons to rate these cereals with a 5 being a "must buy."
Special K Chocolatey Delight is worth a try, but you might as well eat Vector while snacking on a Hershey chocolate bar, that way you can get those equal bites this cereal definitely lacks.

AT THE OLD BALL GAME

Steve, being the wonderful man that he is, invited me along to check out the Toronto Blue Jays vs. Texas Rangers. We had incredible seats, thanks to Josh for the hook up. It had been quite awhile since I had been to a baseball game, last time being the Phillies in Philadelphia a few summers back, and even longer since I saw the Jays play (Grade 3 to be exact), so this was indeed a treat.

Hot Dogs a must at any baseball game.
This brought me back to childhood memories, except no one could hit it this far, which made swatting bugs the only action I ever saw.

These kids got the wave going, made it around the ballpark twice until the crowd became bored with their antics.

So we took to the road on April 1st, and headed across this great nation of ours. We basically saw snow and slush to rain and fog. The drive was nothing short of beautiful, and we avoided any head-on contact with all wildlife, despite the "moose is loose" signs littered throughout the journey.

We stayed in motels along the way, and this one had, by far, the creepiest lamp that watched over me as I tried to sleep.

There are very few bands that stick with you while you grow up and explore different genres of music, and venture the many phases in which adolescence uncomfortably guides you through. But these few that remain, the ones you take hold of, and last that test of time, are priceless, and no matter what flavor of the month comes along they will remain a part of your steady musical diet. I was introduced to Seaweed in the early 90's (my best guess would be 1994-1995, during my obsession with all that was Sub Pop) and I heard something different, and special. I still don't know what it is... maybe the fact that it's raw, and has a skate punk rock feel to it, but remains catchy with pop hooks. Whatever it was, I remained excited on this band. And because of this I decided to compile the collection of LP's I have, and make them available to whoever may come across this and perhaps any loyal readers/lurkers. Anyone out there?

So if you've never heard of Seaweed, here's your introduction to a band worth taking hold of, and gripping tightly throughout all musical storms that may amuse your life. Enjoy!

The band Seaweed was a group active throughout the 1990s. They hailed from Tacoma, Washington. In their early days Seaweed was signed to Sub Pop and later released albums on Hollywood Records and Merge Records. Seaweed's contemporaries during the time of their existence included Mudhoney, Samiam, Jawbreaker and tourmates Superchunk and Quicksand. The band toured extensively in the United States as well as overseas. They played in Brazil with Garage Fuzz in various cities (São Paulo, Belo HOrizonte, Rio de Janeiro, Curitiba, Londrina, etc). The band released many albums and several singles during their career. They were well-known for their cover of Fleetwood Mac's Go Your Own Way, which appeared in the movie Clerks. In 2006, "Losing Skin" appeared on the soundtrack for the video game NHL 2K7

TORONTO TO NYC AND BACK

Just back from a week well spent. Got to Toronto and a day later took a bus down to NYC, no thanks to everyone who bailed on driving down. It was an amazing time nonetheless. Basically, it's the end result of sticking a few immature dudes, late at night, on a computer with AOL instant messenger, and messaging "My IP Relay", complete with a cell phone that has a speaker. ON THE EVE OF DESTRUCTION

Ok, a little dramatic but, I'm at that point. The point in the story where it either goes where I somehow hoped it would, in some kind of preconceived notion of a "happy ending," or it all comes plummeting down like a bird, after smacking it's unknowing face into a clear glass window, thinking it had it's end in sight.

I'm about 70 pages short of finishing "Girlfriend In A Coma" by Douglas Coupland. It's been bizarre at times, a little mysterious, and somewhat slow in the middle. But I am on the edge of the cliff now folks, and it can go either way now. Here I am hoping to fly, soar above the rest of the mediocre books my uneducated nose somehow smuggles its way into. This evening will finally tell, when I take that leap, homeward bound.

The book is a nice play off The Smiths song of the same title, but takes it to a different level. Karen, a 16 year old girl, falls victim to a coma, by mixing drugs with alcohol, leaving the friends and world she knew behind, struggling to understand their loss, these friends remain in a sort of standstill, almost fearful of continuing on without her. 20 years go by and she comes back to the world she once knew, but in a state, like she never left. She has to deal with all the changes around her, and the fact she now has a child (she got knocked up the night she hit the coma button). She also returns with a prophetic vision of a world ending. Something she says she "saw", and the reason why she was unable to return until 20 years later. This vision she shares with the world, but with little to no interest by the deaf ears around her. The prophecy is coming true and people are starting to fall asleep all around the world. Just dropping down, and going to sleep. Chaos is starting to ensue, and the ones still awake are trying to make sense of it, before they too, go to sleep. This is where I am at.

Just got back from an incredible weekend down in Minneapolis. Went down to check out Wu-Tang Clan on Friday and Gorilla Biscuits on Sunday, and of course, indulge in a little "shopping." This weekend came and went so fast, it's still a little hazy to me. I have been lurking messageboards and gathering photos and videos of the weekends events, I will keep updating this as they come in. It was a ton of fun, and I'm happy I was able to play one last time for my friends, girlfriend and family. So, I'm back after a "bust-in bust-out" trip to Vancouver and Seattle. It was a lot of fun, and I can't wait to get a solid night's sleep tonight. I didn't take much for photos, except these few. Champion were amazing, and went out on such a high and amazing note. It's so refreshing to see a hardcore band that actually cares about hardcore. Not out to chase any kind of celebrity, the same guys dancing for the other bands, their peers, their friends. I have the utmost respect for Champion, and I'm so happy to have been able to be there for such a special event, and watch them leave gracefully, forever etched in our hearts.
Check out this clip from the show, as you can see, it was full of energy, and the kids were there to send them off with respect and some stage dives!
Also, I'd like to thank Masumi for the new Gloomy digs, hand painted and all... THANK YOU!!!
It was awesome to see this guy... forever trouble making!

Well, my big Morrissey trip has gone straight down the tubes. Long story short, my "in" to the 2 sold out shows (King's Lynn & London) was a sort of form of six degrees of separation, through Tiger Army. Well, Morrissey, the unpredictable character he is, decided he no longer needed Tiger Army's use as a support act, and had them removed from the remainder of shows, eradicating all possibilities of "ins." I even went to the lengths of eBay to try and acquire a ticket, and go out there alone (those I was to meet out there bailed after the news was broken) but, found them to be way too expensive. So I took a $300 hit on the proverbial chin, and cancelled the flight. Thanks Morrissey!

As a consolation from "life," and it's cat-like way of having me always landing on my feet, I ended up getting a job, I wouldn't have been able to receive if I was gone away. So I took the job, and I booked a flight to hangout in Vancouver/Seattle for the weekend with friends and catch Champion's last show.

Still pretty choked about Morrissey though... fuck.

So I've been reading this book, "Killing Yourself To Live: 85% of a True Story" by Chuck Klosterman, and I came across this part in the book that I thought was so dead on, that I had to post it for others to read. The book is all together a pretty awesome read, and worth checking out, especially if you are a music nerd and want to hear about him visiting all these sites of famous rock star's deaths. Anyways, the part discusses Led Zeppelin and their crucial roll in not only rock music, but male adolescence. Here's the excerpt from the book:

"Whenever I find myself in an argument about the greatest rock bands of all time, I always place Zeppelin third behind the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. This sentiment is incredibly common; if we polled everyone in North America who likes rock music, those three bands would almost certainly be the consensus selections (and in that order). But Zeppelin is far and away the most popular rock band of all time, and they're popular in a way the Beatles and Stones cannot possibly compete with; this is because every straight man born after the year 1958 has atleast one transitory period in his life when he believes Led Zeppelin is the only good rock group that generates that experience.
A few years ago, I was an on-air guest for a morning radio show in Akron. I was on the air with the librarian from the Akron public library, and we were discussing either John Cheever or Guided by Voices, or possibly both. Talk radio in Akron is fucking crazy. While we were walking out of the studio, the librarian noticed the show's 19-year-old producer; the producer had a blonde mullet, his blank eyes were beyond bloodshot, and he was wearing ripped jeans and a black Swan Song T-shirt with all the runes from the Zoso album. The librarian turned to me and said, "You know, I went to high school with that guy." This librarian was 42. But he was right. He did go to high school with that guy. So did I. Everyone in America went to high school with that guy. Right now, there are boys in fourth grade who do not even realize that they will become "that guy" in two decades. Led Zeppelin is the most legitimately timeless musical entity of the past half century; they are the only group in the history of rock 'n' roll that every male rock fan seems to experience in exactly the same way.
You are probably wondering why that happens; I'm not sure, either. I've put a lot of thought into this subject (certainly more than any human should), but it never becomes totally clear; it only seems more and more true. For a time, I thought it was Robert Plant's overt misogyny fused with Jimmy Page's obsession with the occult, since that combination allows adolescent males to reconcile the alienation of unhinged teenage sexuality with their own inescapable geekiness. However, this theory strikes me as "probably stupid." It would be easy to argue that Zeppelin simply out-rocks all other bands, but that's not really true; AC/DC completely out-rocks Led Zeppelin, and AC/DC is mostly ridiculous. Whatever quality makes Led Zeppelin so eternally archteypal must be "intangible," but even that argument seems weak; here in Big Sky Country, I'm listening to "Heartbreaker" at rib-crushing volume, and everything that's perfect about Led Zeppelin, seems completely palpable. There's nothing intangible about the invisible nitroglycerin pouring out of the Tauntaun's (NOTE: His car) woofers. Everything is real. And what that everything is--maybe--is this: Led Zeppelin sounds like who they are, but they also sound like who they are not. They sound like an English blues band. They sound like a warm-blooded brachiosaur. They sound like Hannibal's assault across the Alps. They sound sexy and sexist and sexless. They sound dark but stoned; they sound smart but dumb; they seem older that you, but just barely. Led Zeppelin sounds like the way a cool guy acts. Or--more specifically--Led Zeppelin sounds like a certain kind of cool guy every man vaguely thinks he has the potential to be, if just a few things about the world were different. And the experience this creates is unique to Led Zeppelin because it's manifestation is entirely sonic: There is a point in your life when you hear songs like "The Ocean" and "Out on the Tiles" and "Kashmir," and you suddenly find yourself feeling like songs are actively making you into the person you want to be. It does not matter if you've heard those songs 100 times and felt nothing in the past, and it does not matter if you don't normally like rock 'n' roll and just happen to overhear it in somebody else's dorm room. We all still meet at the same vortex: For whatever the reason, there is a point in the male maturation process when the music of Led Zeppelin sounds like the perfect actualization of the perfectly cool you. You will hear the intro to "When the Levee Breaks," and it will feel like your brain is stuffed inside the kick drum. You will hear the opening howl of "Immigrant Song," and you will imagine standing on the bow of a Viking ship and screaming about Valhalla. But when these things happen, you don't think about Physical Graffiti or Houses of the Holy in those abstract, metaphysical terms; you simply think, "Wow. I just realized something: This shit is perfect. In fact this record is vastly superior to all other forms of music on the entire planet, so this is all I will ever listen to, all the time." And you do this for six days or six weeks or six years. This is your Led Zeppelin phase, and it has as much to do with your own personal psychology as it does with the way John Paul Jones played the organ on "Trampled Under Foot." It has to do with sociobiology, and with Aleister Crowley, and possibly mastodons. And you will grow out of it, probably. But this is why Led Zeppelin is the most beloved rock band of all time, even though most people (including myself) think the Beatles and the Rolling Stones are better. Those two bands are appreciated in myriad ways and for myriad reasons, and the criteria for doing so changes with every generation. But Led Zeppelin is only loved one way, and that will never evolve. They are the one thing all young men share, and we shall share it forever. Led Zeppelin is unkillable, even if John Bonham was not."

I am definitely on round two, or maybe even three of "Zeppelin phases."

THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING MORRISSEY

Anyways, I came across this documentary on Morrissey, and fan or not, you really should take the time to watch this (Hell I've even provided it here on this very page!). His final words in the last installment sum him up perfectly. This is why he is one of my absolute favorite artists and a true genius.

Larry Clark has a new film coming out, and I'm looking really forward to this one. His last film, 'Ken Park' was banned in North America and Europe, so it's nice to know this one won't be so hard to find. I still remember the first time seeing 'Kids', and and being so amazed to see a movie that was shockingly on par with a lot of what was going on around me. Larry Clark may be a creep to some, but he definitely knows how to capture youthful moments that some of us can relate to. He's known best for his movies, but also dabbles in photography, where his work has appeared in a few books he has released as well as on some shirts and skateboards via the influential New York brand Supreme. Check out the trailer...

Larry Clark's Wassup Rockers is about a group of Latino teenagers in South Central Los Angeles who, instead of conforming to the hip hop culture of their gang infested neighborhood, wear tight pants, listen to punk rock, and ride their tricked out skateboards. Avoiding the violence of their dangerous home turf is an everyday challenge. The Rockers decide to travel by bus to skate the world famous "Nine Stairs" at Beverly Hills High School. There they meet some local girls, attracted to the "punks" from the ghetto, but the day quickly goes bad. They're hassled by rich boys from the neighbourhood and rousted by the Beverly Hills Police. Trying to escape arrest by the cops and fights with the locals kids, the Rockers run from house to house and yard to yard in this wealthy and foreign world, looking for a way to get home. An action movie with wild chases through LA and a powerful soundtrack!

I've been wondering how many people take a look at this, and if anyone really cares. There may be a more simple approach, such as a page counter, I may be unaware of, but anyways, this may and should prove to be a far more interesting approach.

I took these pictures when I was in Copenhagen, Denmark, last November, and to this day, I still am not quite too sure what my final thought on it is. Take a look at it, and let me know what you think. What could she have possibly said to make him look that way. I love this sculpture, and it's definately my fondest memory of that journey.

Well I have joined the ranks of "that guy". I bought a Hiptop 2. I was skeptical at first. I was actually given 15 days to return it (still have about 7 days), but I'm officially hooked! Setbacks? The fact it doesn't have over the air updates like us carriers provide (well not until "June"), and I can't currently blog via the phone cause Canada is a little behind the times. Still it has proven to be a true gift of entertainment, and I'm onboard.

I posted this the other night at about 6 am, when I couldn't sleep, through the Comeback Kid myspace bulletin. I figured if anyone deserved an explanation, it was those who took the time to add CBK as a friend and check the band out. Here it is, one last time. I guess I just wanted it posted here, like a painting on my wall...

"To try and squash any rumors going around I figured I'd write one last "bulletin" to give all you a heads up. First off, thank you all so much for adding us as a friend and giving our band a shot. It's so easy to get all big headed when making music, but the bottom line is, you are nothing without a listener. Thank you all for your loyal support. Never for a second did I take this for granted, and I feel like I am so lucky to have been given this opportunity and chance to travel, literally, the world.

Life is full of hard decisions, but only a few of them are as big as this and absolutely life changing. I was faced with one of these decisions. The kind of decision that keeps you up nights, tossing and turning, leaving your stomach in knots. I have decided to leave Comeback Kid. This band has been my life for the past 4 years, and I was a roadie for another band prior to that. I really don't know, or have anything else in my life. Saying I'm not "scared" about my future would be a complete lie. I just got to a point where being on the road for 10 months had become hard, and pushing to be home more became a conflicting agenda. Some would like to see this band go as far as it possibly can, and I was an anchor holding this back. I just wanted to play something honest, make some friends and see the world and I got to do that, and I am forever grateful for my experiences.

I wish the rest of the guys the best of luck in the world. Saying 'Goodbye' the other night was absolutely heartbreaking. These guys are my family, and my life is forever changed, thanks to their talent and friendship.

Thank you to everyone who came out, showed me love, and screamed back words once scribbled out in a bedroom. I am forever indebted to you.

FROM THE GRAND CANYON TO THE ROCKIES

Well I'm finally back. I had a devastating Vegas experience, that not only included losing money, but my computer deciding to not work anymore. Somehow, the powers that be, gave my computer life once again. So here I am. I am currently in Denver, Colorado, and I'd like to proudly announce, that I am still alive! It all started when I chose to ride with Sinking Ships to the Grand Canyon on our day off, and it somehow turned into "drive from hell". The Grand Canyon was absolutely breathtaking, and well worth the adventure. After we took it all in, we had the long trip to Denver to make. It was a mess of deserted highways, to a huge snow storm in the Rockie mountains. We had to get out and push the van numerous times, only having to chase it down to hop in while it was moving. It's been an eventful 24 hours to say the least.

WHAT KEEPS ME ALIVE?

I just feel in a really "positive" mood about hardcore right now. I love this music, and the energy it produces. It's the only stuff I can listen to and want to jump around my room and get stupid. It's funny cause I had a discussion the other day about live music in general and how checking out more mainstream bands is cool, but the energy is so tired, slow and seems so disconnected. I can't imagine ever getting tired of this, as tired as the genre can get sometimes. There is always so much focus on what's been done, and sometimes I feel there isn't enough support of what's going on right now. The past has it's importance, but it's the present that's here. It's the present, right now, that kids will look back on. I felt like listing off a few bands, but not all, that I feel are doing something interesting, new and exciting. These bands, and these records move me, and inspire me, and are some of the reasons I keep coming back. If you can, please take some time to check them out...

"Still Ill" is one of the better The Smiths songs and "Illmatic" is the hottest Nas joints to ever drop. So there you have it boys and girls... Stillillmatic.

Well here it is... my very first entry. Please be gentle with me. I am currently sitting in a back room with a few Aussie "blokes", in this club in Adelaide. Australia has been treating this Canadian quite nicely, and really how can one complain when they are sitting in sunshine, while the life I'm currently away from is freezing cold. Suckers.
